SERVICES
The first step in any study investigating genetic differences in plants or animals, is the purification of the associated nucleic acids.
Depending on the size of your project, your specific requirements and the biological application, Biomax Genetics can offer a consultative extraction service that provides a fit-for-purpose solution. For large projects that are likely to process many samples, please contact us to discuss the development of a cost-effective custom kit.
Our range of genomics services includes high quality DNA extractions from plant and animal tissues, as well as high molecular weight extractions.

SERVICES
Plant gDNA and RNA
Extractions

We specialise in plant gDNA extractions. The contaminants in these sample types (polyphenols and polysaccharides) can vary substantially among species and are often challenging.
We are currently able to offer extraction solutions for wheat, maize, tomato, onion, beans, butternut, pumpkin, courgette, squash, cabbage and grape vine. These solutions are suitable for PCR, qPCR, standard Sanger sequencing. Please contact our R and D team for higher end applications such as Next Generation Sequencing.

Animal gDNA
Extractions

Peripheral blood leukocytes are a main source of animal genomic DNA, typically extracted from whole blood samples. Blood contains a range of compounds like proteins, lipids and platelets which can negatively effect nucleic acid extractions.
We are currently able to extraction solutions for animal hair, blood and muscle tissue (bovine, porcine, chicken). These solutions are suitable for standard Sanger and Next Generation Sequencing applications.

High Molecular Weight Extractions

Third-generation sequencing is becoming more common place with the advent of technologies that are cost effective and easy to transport (Oxford NanoPore). Such technologies require read lengths greater than 10 kb and the nucleic acid extractions are laborious (at least two days) and challenging.

These outputs are suitable for whole genome sequencing on Illumina platforms and long range sequencing on the Oxford Nanopore Minion. This service functions in a consultative manner as the quality of the input tissue is directly associated with the success of the extraction. Please contact our R and D team for more information.
